The door-closer is applied to the main insulated solid door(s) of a walk-in cooler or freezer. Hydraulic-type door-closers on walk in freezers and coolers can reduce the door opening time significantly, thus reducing infiltration of warm outside air into the refrigeration itself and refrigeration loads. This retrofit measure applies only when the doors weren’t previously equipped with door-closers.
In refrigeration incentive programs, the measure’s incentive, savings, and incremental measure cost are determined on a “per unit” basis for walk-in coolers or freezers. The general opinion is that door closer has an effective useful life of 8-10 years determined from engineering case studies done on refrigeration systems.
According to the latest federal refrigeration standards provided by the U.S department of energy every walk-in cooler or walk-in freezer manufactures on or after Jan. 1, 2009 shall have an automatic door closer that firmly close all walk-in doors that have been closed to within 1 inch of full closure (excluding doors wider than 3 feet 9 inches or taller than 7 feet).
Orange Energizing Solutions installs high quality door closers for any kind of walk in cases and has its own manufacturing line of door closers that can be suited to your type of door dimensions and weight. This measure has a significant contribution in annual coincident peak demand saving and reduction of warm air infiltration. Orange Energizing Solutions has installed thousands of door closers under many energy efficiency programs electric utility companies are offering.
