    Gasket Installation

    Gasket Installation Best Practices

    March 5, 2019/in Gaskets/by Paul Cook

A commercial refrigerator is one of the most valuable assets that any business can have. One of the most important parts of your refrigeration system is its gasket material on the door frame. A gasket is a metal retainer that is used to ensure that the door stays shut. This forms a seal that keeps any external warm air out of the entire of your refrigerator, freezer, or cooler.

The gasket is essential for keeping the cold air in and the warm air out and refrigerator gasket installation procedures are timely exercises that need to be practiced very carefully. If you are new to the procedure, then it would be wise for you to have an experienced professional by your side but this doesn’t mean it’s an impossible task. If you do decide to learn the process, make sure you have an effective game plan in place.

These are the steps that you should follow when it’s time to install a new gasket:

    Be Safe on The Job

Be sure to protect yourself at all times when tackling a gasket replacement. Before you start to take on the project, make sure you gather the right safety equipment. This includes gloves, goggles or face protectors, hard hats, and a list of the proper instructions. Keep those step by step instructions in close range so you always have details about the protocol.

Examine and Clean the Surface Area

Before you get ready to replace the refrigerator door, make sure that there is no debris or any other foreign material from the sealing surface. As you are preparing to place the gasket on the side of the door, make a thorough inspection for dents, dings, cracks, or any other infringements that could cause a gasket failure in the future. Using warm water and soft wire brushes, gently scrub the surface in order to keep the hinges in pristine condition.

    Properly Align the Flanges

Once the surface area is clear, it’s time to align the gasket head with the door flanges. To create an effective seal, make sure that the flanges are parallel with one another. The parallel flanges will secure the gasket in place, in order to create a tight seal onto the refrigerator. This gives you balance when it’s time to fasten the gasket onto the door panel. Don’t try to overtighten the bolts. If the flanges need more force, make sure you contact an experienced refrigeration specialist.

    Install the Gasket

It’s finally time to put the gasket into place. Examine the surface area one more time to make sure that there are no defects interfering with the installation. Once space is clear, you can safely place the gasket into the center of the flanges. The head gasket should simply pop right in, forming a tight-fit snug between the door panel and the flanges.

    Provide an Extra Seal

After the gasket is installed, it’s important to follow up by applying safe lubricants onto the door panels. This keeps the surface area smooth, helping to prevent future defects. If you use a heat gun, then this will give you that extra layer of support to ensure that gasket holds a more firm grip for a longer period of time.
